Where the Cancel Button Hides: 12 Services, Step by Step
Cancelling is hard on purpose. Signing up takes two clicks; getting out takes six screens, three "are you sure?" offers, and a grey text link that doesn't look like a button.
This is a map. Below is where the cancel button actually sits in twelve services, plus the two places where the wrong move costs real money.
Before anything else: 60 seconds that saves an hour
Check your card statement for the charge descriptor. If it reads APPLE.COM/BILL, GOOGLE *, ROKU, or AMZN Mktp, the service you're trying to leave cannot cancel it for you — a third party is doing the billing, and the cancel button lives in that third party's settings, not on the service's website.
That single check resolves most "I can't find it" cases. We cover it in detail in How to Cancel Subscriptions on iPhone.
Everything below assumes the company bills you directly.
The twelve
| Service | Path |
|---|---|
| Netflix | Profile icon → Account → Membership → Cancel Membership |
| Spotify | Account → Your plan → Change plan → Cancel Premium (page bottom) |
| Disney+ | Profile → Account → Subscription → Cancel Subscription |
| Paramount+ | Account → Subscription & Billing → Cancel Subscription |
| Hulu | Account → Your Subscription → Manage Plan → Cancel |
| Peacock | Account → Plans & Payment → Change or Cancel Plan |
| Fubo | Account → Subscription → Cancel Subscription |
| YouTube Premium | Google Account → Payments & subscriptions → Manage |
| Scribd / Everand | Account → Account Settings → Cancel Membership |
| Adobe Creative Cloud | Account → Plans → Manage plan → Cancel plan |
| Amazon Prime | Account & Lists → Prime Membership → Manage → End Membership |
| Canva | Profile → Account settings → Billing & plans → Cancel subscription |
Paths shift as these companies redesign. If one doesn't match, use the universal method below.
Two that cost money if you do it wrong
Adobe charges an early termination fee
This is the expensive one. Adobe's annual-plan-paid-monthly is a 12-month contract billed in monthly installments. Cancel in month three and you owe a percentage of the remaining months.
The fee-free window is the stretch right before your renewal date. So the move is: find your renewal date now, put it in your calendar, and cancel a few days before it — not the moment you decide you're done.
Amazon Prime may owe you a refund
The opposite problem: people cancel Prime and leave money behind. If you've barely used the shipping or streaming benefits this period, the cancellation flow sometimes offers a partial refund rather than just ending at the period's close.
You will not see it unless you click all the way through the flow instead of abandoning it at the first retention offer.
The universal method
Interfaces change; this doesn't:
1. Search first. [service name] cancel subscription. The company's own help page is almost always the top result and matches the current UI. This beats hunting through menus.
2. Look for four words. Plan, Billing, Subscription, Membership. The cancel control is always one or two layers behind one of them.
3. Scroll to the bottom. It's rarely a button. It's usually small, grey, unbolded text under a wall of discount offers.
4. Push through the retention gauntlet. Expect three screens in order: pause instead, downgrade instead, here's a discount. Each has a prominent "keep my plan" button and a faint "continue cancelling" link. You are not done until you see a confirmation page.
5. If you truly can't find it, open a ticket. Contact / Support, state that you're cancelling and the date. Most companies will process it, and you get a written record — which matters if they bill you again.
Then verify
Go back to the account page. It should now say "Your subscription ends on [date]" or "Expires".
If it still shows a next billing date, you didn't finish. Do it again.
Save the confirmation email. If a charge appears anyway, that email is what makes the dispute short.
Find the ones you've forgotten
Most people are paying for two or three things they can't name.
- Email search:
receipt, invoice, your subscription, renewal, welcome to - Card statement: list every recurring charge of identical amount, then ask "did I use this last month?"
- The three billers: check the subscription lists inside your Apple ID, Google account, and PayPal — each holds subscriptions the companies themselves can't show you
- PayPal specifically: Settings → Payments → Manage automatic payments. This page is often a graveyard of forgotten authorizations
Not ending up here again
- Subscribe with one dedicated card or a virtual card with its own limit — you keep a switch the company can't touch
- Prefer PayPal where offered, for the unilateral revoke
- The moment a free trial starts, set a calendar reminder for two days before it converts. There is usually no warning email
- Sweep your statement quarterly. Fifteen minutes, four times a year
The one-line version
Check who's billing you, then look behind the words Plan / Billing / Subscription / Membership, then scroll to the bottom and push through three retention screens. And find your Adobe renewal date before you touch anything.
More payment and subscription tools are in our Finance category; streaming services are under Video.
Interfaces and policies change without notice. Paths here were checked in August 2026 — verify against the service's current help page before relying on them.
